日本政府は、10月 コンゴに選挙監視団再派遣

コンゴに選挙監視団再派遣へ＝政府
　政府は22日、アフリカ中部のコンゴ民主共和国（旧ザイール）で10月29日に行われる大統領選の決選投票に、選挙監視団を派遣する方針を固めた。内閣府や外務省の職員、民間の有識者ら約10人が10月下旬に出発し、11月上旬に帰国する。政府は先月30日に実施された1回目の大統領選と国民議会選挙にも監視団を派遣している。
　1回目の投票ではどの候補者も当選に必要な過半数の得票を得られなかったため、トップだったカビラ現大統領と2位のベンバ副大統領の間で決選投票が行われる。ただ、両陣営間の対立が激化しており、治安状況が著しく悪化した場合は派遣を見合わせる可能性もある。

第1回ガウス賞に伊藤氏＝確率微分方程式の創始者−応用数学に貢献・国際数学連合
　国際数学連合は22日、応用数学に卓越した業績を上げた数学者に授与される「ガウス賞」の第1回受賞者に伊藤清京大名誉教授（90）が選ばれたと発表した。同日、スペイン・マドリードで開催中の国際数学者会議で授賞式が行われた。
　伊藤氏は1915年三重県生まれ。東大卒業後、52年から京大教授、同大数理解析研究所長などを務め、2003年には文化功労者に選ばれた。
　42年、微分方程式に確率の概念を導入した「確率微分方程式」を発表。不確実な現象を記述する方法として、60年代から物理学、工学などで応用されたほか、80年代以降は金融工学分野に応用範囲が広がった。
