バグダッド（ＣＮＮ）　米軍報道官によると、住民虐殺などの罪でイラク高等法廷に起訴されているフセイン元大統領（６９）が、２３日までに入院した。今月初めから続けているハンガーストライキの影響とみられ、命に別条はないという。
報道官によれば、元大統領は自発的に栄養チューブを装着し、経過観察を受ける一方、ハンストは継続しているという。
これに対し、元大統領の弁護士モハメド・モネイブ氏は「２２日に３時間にわたって面会した際、体調は非常に良さそうだった」と述べ、入院の理由に疑問を示した。同氏はＣＮＮとのインタビューで「法廷側が元大統領の出廷を妨害しようとしているのではないか」と話している。
フセイン元大統領のハンストは、昨年１０月の公判開始以来３度目。裁判の手続きや弁護団の警護態勢に抗議するとして、７日から一切の食事を拒否していた。
